La Crosse Technology, WS-7017U-IT Wireless Weather Forecaster and Indoor Outdoor Thermometer

The La Crosse Technology, WS-7017U-IT Wireless Weather Forecaster and Indoor Outdoor Thermometer has an extremely accurate atomic clock display with time and date, a weather icon displaying a weather forecast, indoor temperature and humidity display with a comfort level icon, and an outdoor temperature display that displays data transmitted by the included remote sender, from up to 330 feet away.

The clock section of the WS-7017U-IT receives radio transmissions, transmitted from the United States master atomic clock source, to set itself with split second accuracy. Hour, minute, month and date are displayed.

The weather forecaster on this station displays one of three icons indicating the likely weather trend for the next 12 to 24 hours, plus a trend arrow.  Accuracy is around 75%.

Indoor temperature and humidity are displayed, along with outdoor temperature. Temperature can be displayed in your choice of °F or °C.  Outdoor temperature data is transmitted to the display by the included TX29U-IT remote. Up to two additional remote locations may be monitored by purchasing additional TX29U-IT remote senders. Additional remote locations are displayed by pressing the channel button. The distance from the remote to the display can be up to 330 feet with no obstructions.  Passing through an exterior wall will typically reduce range by about 20 feet, each interior wall will reduce range by about 10 feet.  Results will vary depending on building construction and the possible presence of interference.

Note:  The WS-7017U-IT La Crosse Technology has "atomic" clock functionality. Atomic, or Radio Controlled clocks receive a radio signal to set themselves. Like any radio receiver however, they may not be able to receive the signal if they are in a building with a lot of steel in the structure, near computers or other electrical equipment that may generate interference, or if the weather is unsuitable. The signal they receive does not propagate well during the day. That's the nature of the signal, not the clock. These clocks are designed to catch the signal when they can, generally in the middle of the night, calibrate themselves, and then run quite accurately for days until they can catch another signal. When you first put in the batteries, they will most likely not set themselves until the middle of the night. That's normal. By morning, weather permitting, it should be correct. Under less than ideal conditions, it could take a few days. Daylight savings time changes may not be made the first night if location and weather are not favorable.
