The Taylor 508 has a unique dot matrix
display with animated fast response. You see animations (numbers and/or
letters) scroll across the display for on/off, for changes from °F to °C
and back, and for temperature hold. By the way, the HOLD button is
actually the silicone accent on the left side of the case. If you look
closely, you'll see HOLD embossed into the top of the button. However, you
must press this button from the center of the side, not from the top.
To use the 508 digital instant read
thermometer, you press ON/OFF to turn it on and then press °F/°C if you
want to change the temperature unit. You insert the stem of the
508 at least 1 inch into the food being tested and leave it in the food
until the display stabilizes. When this happens, press HOLD to lock the
temperature reading and then remove the thermometer from the food. Press
HOLD again when you want to release the temperature reading, and then
either perform another measurement or press ON/OFF again to turn the 508
off.
For powering, the Taylor 508 instant read
thermometer uses one CR2032 button cell battery, which is included and
preinstalled. To prolong battery life, the 508 has an automatic shut-off
feature that turns the power off after 5 minutes if no change in
temperature occurs. The auto shut-off feature can be disabled if you wish,
and instructions for doing so are provided on the back of the 508's
package opposite the instructions for general operation.
