The 1457 Taylor Digital Wireless Remote Temperature Sensor monitors the temperature at an outdoor or other remote location, displays it in locally its own LCD panel, and transmits it to an associated Taylor main unit for display at that location. The main unit can be a Taylor 1453 or 1456 Digital Wireless Indoor Outdoor Thermometer or a Taylor 1461 Wireless Digital Thermo-Hygrometer and Forecaster. Each of these products comes with one 1457 and can work with up to three. The 1457 is part of Taylor's latest line of weather products, all of which feature a slim, contoured profile. The 1457 remote can be wall-mounted or free-standing.

Outdoor/remote temperature measuring range is  -4°F to +140°F (-20° to +60°C). Using lithium batteries in the 1457 extends its low temperature measuring limit to -40°F (-40°C). With the probe attached, the 1457's low temperature measuring limit is further extended to -58°F (-50°C).

The 1457 comes with a temperature probe on a detachable 11-foot (3.3-meter) cable. The probe is ideal for measuring the temperature in a swimming pool, hot tub, or aquarium and also in soil. Another use for the probe is in extremely cold conditions, in which case you bring the remote inside and extend the probe outside (by hanging it out of a window, for example). The 1457 should be mounted in a sheltered location where direct precipitation cannot fall on it. Although this remote is splash-resistant (the package says "weatherproof"), it is not waterproof.

Maximum transmission range of the 1457 is 100 feet (30 meters) in an open area with no interference.

The 1457 remote is powered by two AA (1.5V) alkaline batteries. These are not included and must be obtained separately. Expected battery life is 1 year. If the 1457 remote will be used in sub-freezing temperatures, lithium AA batteries are recommended instead of alkaline.

On the back of the 1457 are a keyhole slot for wall mounting and an integral folding table stand. A wall anchor and wall-mounting screw are included. This product comes with a 1-year factory warranty.
