DT-300VW Sangean Digital Weather Band Pocket Radio
with AM / FM,
Stereo / TV2-13, Clock, and Alarm
|
|
|
The DT-300VW Sangean Digital Weather Band Pocket Radio
receives AM and FM radio broadcasts, the audio portion of VHF television
broadcasts (channels 2 through 13), and NOAA weather band (WX) channel 0
through 9 broadcasts. Nine station presets for each of the four frequency
bands let you select and store your favorites. This radio also has a
digital clock with a daily alarm and a 1 to 180-minute timer. You can
listen to the DT-300VW via its built-in speaker or via the included earbud-type
earphones. Through the earphones, you'll hear FM stereo broadcasts in true
stereo
(unless you select monaural). Truly pocket-size, the DT-300VW Sangean will
keep you entertained and informed when you're at home, at work, or
outdoors.

|
The DT-300VW Sangean Digital Weather Band Pocket Radio is styled primarily in silver, gray, and
black. You can carry the radio in your shirt pocket or in the
included black vinyl belt pouch. This is a high-quality unit. The tuner is
sensitive, the sound from the speaker is crisp and clear despite
its small size, and the sound from the earphones is excellent. When you're using the
earphones, the earphone cord
acts as the antenna for FM, TV audio, and weather band. When
you're not using the earphones, you'll need to plug in the
included pigtail trailing antenna (which is basically a slim black
insulated wire about 34 inches in length) to receive FM, VHF TV,
and weather band broadcasts. For AM reception, the radio has an
internal ferrite rod antenna.

The clock in the Sangean
DT-300VW is a digital quartz clock that displays the time as hour and
minutes in 12-hour format with AM or PM. When setting the alarm time, you
should be aware that what the instructions call the Standby button is the
button designated MEMORY on the radio. The timer in the DT-300VW is a
countdown timer (although the count is not displayed) that can be set for
1 to 180 minutes in 1-minute increments. When either the clock alarm or
the timer sounds, it beeps for at least 3 minutes unless silenced earlier
by pressing the POWER on/off button. A sound wave icon appears in the
display when the alarm or timer is set.
To listen to FM stereo
broadcasts, you must plug in the earphones, set the speaker switch below
the earphone jack to off (toward the earphone icon), and use the MONO
button on the front of the radio to select stereo (in which case an
earphone icon with ST in it appears in the display above the frequency).
With AM, VHF TV, or WX (weather band) selected, reception is monaural
only, even when you are using the earphones.
Here are some other things
you should know about the Sangean DT-300VW multiband pocket radio. The front of the package says
"18 Memories", but the radio actually has 9 available presets
for each of its 4 bands. You can set the presets manually, or you can let
the radio scan and set the presets automatically based on signal strength.
You can tune the radio manually by using the up and down buttons, or you
can use the available scan tuning feature. With scan tuning active, the
radio turns itself off automatically after 90 minutes unless you turn it
off manually earlier. There is also an available memory scan and play
function. With this selected, the radio scans through its presets, playing
each for about 2 seconds before going on to the next.
NOAA stands for National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration. While
the DT-300VW radio has 10 channels (0 through 9) for NOAA weather band (WX)
reception, in most cases channels 1 through 3 will be the ones that cover
your U.S. area. When threatening weather conditions arise, or when you
just want to know the local forecast, the DT-300VW will keep you on top of
things.
To prevent accidental
changing of programmed settings, the DT-300VW has a lock switch on the top
next to the POWER on/off button. You can set the time with the lock
switch in the locked position, but it must be in the unlocked position to
use the radio. If you need to store the radio, you can set the lock switch
to locked to save battery power.
The Sangean DT-300VW is
powered by two AAA batteries (not included, alkaline recommended). A low
battery icon appears in the display when replacement becomes necessary.
Sangean radios are known
for their high levels of performance and craftsmanship. The Sangean DT-300VW
AM/FM/Weather/TV Radio with clock and timer may be small in size, but it's
big in functionality. We think that it is a perfect traveling accessory,
and we can envision folks taking it along when hiking, biking, climbing,
backpacking, and
camping. Naturally, the DT-300VW makes a great gift item, but you'll
probably want one for yourself, too.
