This compact
digital alarm clock features two alarms (a daily, and a weekday only
alarm) with a snooze function, a time/calendar display, and the absolute
accuracy that only a radio-controlled clock can provide. Time can be
displayed along with either seconds or weekday. The weekday abbreviation
is user-selectable for five different languages. Month and date are also
shown simultaneously with the time. A second time display with hour offset
for a different time zone is also available. A backlight for night
viewing is provided (although it's not an electroluminescent backlight
like the more expensive models), and the required AA battery is included. |
|
- The clock automatically
sets time and date by synchronizing to the radio signal (WWVB, 60kHz)
from the U.S. atomic clock in Colorado.
- In radio-controlled
mode, clock adjusts automatically for Daylight Saving Time.
- Time and date can be
manually set if desired.
- A large time display
(11/16-inch for hours and minutes, 5/16-inch for seconds) provides
easy reading.
- Time is displayed in 12-
or 24-hour mode.
- Available time displays
are time with seconds, time with weekday, or time with hour offset.
|
- Hour-offset time display
is user-settable for +/- 9 hours.
- The weekday abbreviation
is user-selectable for English, German, Italian, French, or Spanish.
- Two alarms can be set, a
single alarm that goes of once, and a weekday alarm that goes off
every weekday.
- The alarm is a 2-minute
crescendo pattern with an 8-minute snooze function.
- The backlight duration
is 5 seconds.
- Radio signal strength
and low-battery indications are provided.

Slim and
compact, this good-looking clock is styled in black with light gray,
angled function buttons below the display and a dark gray back. The clock
case forms an integral stand for use on a table, shelf, etc. The clock
requires one AA battery, which is included.
The RM982A is the middle
member of an Oregon Scientific clock trio that also includes the RM981A
and RM983A. Functionally, the RM982A and RM981A are nearly identical.
However, the RM982A's larger display window can show both local time and
month/date simultaneously. Another difference is that the RM981A has a
separate calendar display that includes the year, while the RM982A shows
the year only during manual time/date setting. The RM983 is the most fully
featured of the trio--it has an indoor thermometer, a two-line LCD window,
and a larger time display than its two siblings. Check out all three
clocks, and choose the one that best suits your needs.
A quick note:
Here's a helpful hint for
setting the clock's various time, calendar, and alarm parameters. In the
diagrams that show how to do this, please be aware that a hand with
extended index finger means that the indicated button must be pressed and
held for 2 full seconds. Doing this causes the first settable parameter to
flash, indicating that it is ready to be set. You then use the UP and DOWN
buttons to select the value. Oddly, the explanation for the hand symbol is
at the end of the graphics. We would have put it near the
beginning. If the hand isn't shown, you need only press the indicated
button momentarily. |
