Oregon Scientific FAW101A-K Monza
Ferrari Collection Wireless Weather Station
|
|
|
The
Ferrari Collection from Oregon Scientific reflects the glamour,
excitement, and tradition of Formula One motor racing. The
instruments in the Ferrari Collection's Aerodynamic Line are named
after legendary racing circuits and feature a curvy, sporty
look.
One of these
instruments is the FAW101A-K Monza Wireless Weather Station.
This version of the Monza has a black case. The gently curved case
front has the checkered appearance of carbon fiber, a major
component in today's racecar construction. A flat silver-colored
panel that stands out from the case front contains the backlit
display and five round chrome pushbuttons. |
|
|

|
The
Monza Weather Station has the high-tech look of carbon fiber
and bears the Ferrari prancing horse logo. Perfect for home
or office use, this weather station is great-looking and
rich in features. It displays the indoor temperature,
remote/outdoor temperature and humidity from 1 to 3
locations up to 100 feet (30 meters) away. It also displays
the barometric pressure, provides highly accurate weather
forecasts, and shows humidity and temperature trends plus a
comfort level indication. Rounding out this station's
generous feature complement is a radio-controlled
"atomic" clock with calendar and snooze alarm. |
|
|
Medium in size at
about 3.8 inches wide by 7.4 inches tall, this station has a
3.5-inch-tall, 5-line LCD panel with some very interesting
displays. Besides indicating the temperature, humidity, and
pressure, the Monza weather station:
- Stores maximum
and minimum temperatures and humidity--both indoor and for all
remotes in use--until reset. These can be displayed at the
push of a button.
- Provides trend
indications (rising, steady, or falling) for temperature and
humidity.
- Provides
accurate weather forecasts (with four different graphical
icons) based on air pressure changes.
- Indicates the
predicted road conditions (dry, slick, or very wet) by any of
three racing tire icons.
- Features an
incredibly accurate radio-controlled ("atomic")
clock with a calendar and a single daily alarm with 8-minute
snooze function.
- Has a Ferrari F1
racecar animation with rapidly turning wheels at the bottom of
the LCD panel below the time/calendar display.
A really cool
user-settable altitude compensation feature lets you display the
sea-level air pressure (the reading you get from your radio or tv
weatherperson) even though your location is well above or below
sea level.
Another special
feature of the Monza weather station is its choice of alarm sounds
for the station's single daily alarm. You can select either a
conventional 2-minute crescendo alarm (a series of increasingly
loud beeps) or a racing mode alarm. This is the sound of an actual
Ferrari F1 racecar accelerating through the gears and then backing
off, and it repeats several times. Like the crescendo alarm, it
ceases after about 2 minutes if you don't press the Alarm or
Snooze/Light button to stop it.
One THGR238NF
wireless remote thermo-hygro sensor is included, and the station
can actually monitor up to three of these sensors. This particular
remote is black in color to complement the main unit, and it has
its own LCD display that shows the temperature and humidity
locally. Additional sensors can be obtained separately.
This station
features a bright, pushbutton-activated HiGloTM
electro-luminescent backlight with auto-off. This backlight
illuminates not only the LCD display but also the bezels that
surround the front-panel pushbuttons. The backlight comes on when
you push the Snooze/Light button on the top of the main unit and
also when the alarm sounds.
The main unit can
be mounted on a wall, or you can rotate the integral table stand
outward from the back and place the station on a flat surface. The
remote sensor has its own wall-mounting bracket, or you can
install the included wire stand and place the remote on a flat
surface.
The FAW101A-K main
unit uses three AA alkaline batteries, and the THGR238NF remote
sensor uses two AA alkaline batteries. All batteries are included.
Be sure to install the batteries in the remote before installing
them in the main unit. This will ensure that the remote registers
properly with the main unit. If you want to use the remote in
sub-freezing conditions, we recommend that you replace its AA
alkaline batteries with lithium batteries. Lithium cells retain
their power down to about -40°F (-40°C).
The styling and the
carbon-fiber black, silver, and chrome colors of this version of
the Monza definitely capture the spirit of Formula One racing
technology. The purposeful arrangement of the round pushbuttons on
the front of the station is a particularly nice touch. But if you
would prefer the Monza weather station in Ferrari red with a
simulated carbon fiber panel on the front, please check out the
FAW101A-R Monza on this website.
Note:
When we first inserted batteries in the Monza main unit to test
the station's operation, the racing mode alarm (Ferrari racecar
sounds) and backlight came on continuously. While we think this
may be intentional to impress the purchaser, it may be quite
disconcerting to some. If this occurs with your Monza station, you
can stop the alarm and turn off the backlight either by depressing
the RESET button on the back of the unit or (even easier) by
simply removing and then replacing the batteries. |

Features and
Benefits
- It's wireless!
Easy setup with no cables to string--remote sensors send
temperature and humidity data back to the main unit (base
station) via 433MHz radio waves.
- Know the
temperature and relative humidity both indoors and at up to
three remote locations--outdoors or in your greenhouse, baby's
room, warehouse, wine cellar or other location--from the
comfort of your home or office.
- At a glance,
check the current barometric pressure, the temperature and
relative humidity trends, and the weather forecast.
- Four weather
forecast icons indicate Sunny (clear at night), Partly Cloudy,
Cloudy, or Rainy (snowy in sub-freezing temperatures).
- Associated with
the forecast icons are three road-condition icons that
indicate Dry, Slick, or Very Wet.
- Weather forecast
is for 12 to 24 hours in the future. The forecast covers an
18- to 30-mile (30- to 50-km) radius and is 70 to 75 percent
accurate.
- Three trend
icons each for temperature and humidity indicate Rising,
Steady, or Falling.
- Main unit can be
optioned to show temperatures in °C or °F and barometric
pressure in mb/hPa or inHg.
- Remote can be
optioned to show temperatures in °C or °F.
- Both main unit
and remote show relative humidity in percent.
- Integral memory
in main unit stores maximum and minimum temperature and
humidity readings (indoor and from remotes) for instant
pushbutton display.
- User-settable
altitude compensation for barometer to obtain correct
sea-level pressure reading at altitudes from -328 to +8203
feet (-100 to +2500 meters). See the note below for additional
information.
Note:
With this station, you need to enter your altitude in meters
for the altitude compensation. This is done in increments of 10
meters, which equates to 33 feet in English units.
- Comes complete
with one THGR238NF thermo-hygro sensor--add one or two
additional sensors (optional; not included) to monitor up to
three remote locations, indoors or out.
- Integral
radio-controlled clock with calendar and alarm automatically
synchronizes itself to the U.S. atomic clock in Colorado and
also automatically adjusts for Daylight Saving Time.
- An RF (radio
frequency) tower-and-wave icon indicates that the clock is
receiving the synchronizing radio signals for time and date.
- RF reception can
be disabled for manual setting if desired (for example, if
station is taken out of range of the time-synchronization
signal).
- Clock/calendar
display has 3 display modes:
- Time as
hour, minute, seconds.
- Time as hour
and minute with weekday abbreviation in place of seconds.
- Month and
date (year is displayed only during manual setting of
clock and calendar).
- Clock can be
optioned to display time in 12-hour or 24-hour format.
- Weekday
abbreviation is user-selectable for any of five languages:
English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish.
- Calendar can be
optioned to display month-date or date-month.
- U.S. time zone (
Pacific, Mountain, Central, or Eastern) is shown as an
abbreviation that is only displayed during setup.
- Daily 2-minute
crescendo alarm or racing mode alarm has an available 8-minute
snooze function.
- Maximum
transmission range for remote sensors is 100 feet (30 meters).
- Main unit
provides low-battery indications both for itself and for
remote sensor .
- Main unit has an
integral rotating stand so that it can be placed on a desk,
shelf or table or mounted on a wall in home or office.
- Remote sensor
can also be free-standing (with included wire stand installed)
or wall-mounted via an included bracket.
