Home Weather StationsThese home weather stations have rainfall
or wind measuring capability, or both. Some have computer connections for
gathering data, some have solar powered remotes. Some of these weather
stations are totally wireless, requiring no wiring from the remotes back
to the console. Some are partially wireless, with wires running outside
between the remotes, with a wireless link into the console in the house.

The La Crosse Technology Weather Instruments TX3UP temperature sender has a waterproof probe and a temperature display on the sender. The La Crosse Technology TX3UP may be used to monitor soil temperature, pool temperature, hot tub temperature, freezer or refrigerator temperature, or may be placed indoors with the probe routed outdoors through a window for extreme climates. The TX3UP uses 2 AAA batteries.

The La Crosse Technology Weather Instruments TX6U is the more common remote temperature only sensor for the La Crosse Technology weather instruments. The La Crosse Technology TX6U does not have a display of it’s own. The TX6U uses 2 AA batteries (alkaline batteries included), and is excellent for use for extended periods of operation in cold temperatures. In harsh climates, the alkaline batteries in the TX6U may be replaced with Lithium batteries for extended low temperature operation.

The TX7U Temperature and Humidity Sensor reports the outdoor temperature and humidity (or any other location whose temperature and humidity you wish to know) to the station. The remote has a water-resistant case, but it must not be installed in a location where rain can fall directly on it.

Having the remotes wired together has an
advantage in that the batteries for the remotes can be located in an easy to
reach location, yet provide power to remotes that are usually mounted in
inconvenient locations. Some models have a feature allowing either
wireless or wired links between the wired outside remotes and the indoor
console. In this case, running a wired link allows quicker data updates,
since battery life is no longer a problem, but only allows one indoor display
console per system. Operating with a wireless link negates having to run a
wire into the house, and allows the use of more than one display console, but
data is transmitted less often to lengthen battery life. |
