As mentioned above, the
Taylor #3800 is easy to use. You
place it on a hard, level surface and press ON/OFF to turn
it on. When the display changes from 8888 to 0.0 (for
ounces) or 0 (for grams), the
scale is ready to use. The factory default weight unit is
ounces. To switch to grams, press and release the
TARE/g/oz button. Then place the item to be weighed at the
center of the platform. The weight is displayed in the LCD
panel. If you add weight, the displayed weight will
increase. When you finish weighing, press ON/OFF to turn
the scale off. To maximize battery life, the scale will
turn off automatically after 1 minute of non-use. As
often as not, you'll probably want to weigh ingredients in
a bowl or other container rather than on the
platform. In this case, you'll need to
tare, or offset, the weight of the bowl so only the weight of
what's in the bowl is displayed. This is really easy. Just
place the bowl on the scale when the scale is off. Then
turn the scale on. The display reads 8888 and then 0.0 or
0,
which indicates that the weight of the container has been
zeroed out. Add the ingredient to be weighed, and its
weight alone will appear. The
weight of additional ingredients can be tared out as well.
If, for example, a recipe calls for 1/2 pound of one
ingredient and 1/4 pound of a second, tare out the
container first as described above. Then weigh the first
ingredient so that you have the correct amount. Press
TARE/g/oz, and the display will reset to 0.0 or 0. Then
add and weigh the second ingredient so that you have the
correct amount. That's all there is to it. By
the way, when weights have been tared out, removing the
items from the scale results in a negative number in the
display. To reset the scale to 0.0 or 0 for a new measurement,
you press TARE/g/oz. If
"O-Ld" appears in the display, the scale is
overloaded. Remove the weight immediately to prevent
permanent damage to the scale. Also, be absolutely sure to
read the Precautions section of the Instruction Manual
completely before using the scale. This can extend the
life of the scale and prevent operational problems down
the line. For
powering, the Taylor 3800 scale requires two CR2032
lithium batteries, which are included and preinstalled. If
"LO" appears in the display or if the readings
grow dim or irregular, it's time to replace the batteries.
Accurate and reliable,
the #3800 Classic Digital Kitchen Scale is covered by a
Taylor 1-year limited warranty.
