To turn the alarm on, you press and release the spring-loaded locking alarm button on the back of the clock up so that the button is in the ON (out) position. When the alarm time is reached, you hear a pleasant beeping sound. To turn off the beeping, press and release the alarm button so that it locks in the OFF (in) position. The beeping lasts for about 40 minutes if you don't turn it off first. This may be a good thing for sound sleepers and for folks who'd prefer to stay in bed but need to get up. As long as the alarm switch is set to ON (out), the alarm will sound again in 12 hours at the set time.

For powering, the 47637 Crown Line Deluxe Baby Ben clock uses one AA (1.5V) battery, which is not included. We recommend an alkaline battery because alkaline cells are far less prone to leakage than the carbon-zinc type, and their leakage is far less corrosive. Expected battery life is about 1 year. To install the battery, you must remove the case back by unscrewing two knurled retaining screws that secure it. This is easily done by hand.
