47601 Big Ben 1939 Alarm Clock, Black Dial, By Westclox
|
|
|
The 47601 Big Ben 1939 Alarm Clock,
By Westclox is an authentic recreation of
the original style 5 Big Ben design by Henry Dreyfuss. Style 5 clocks were initially manufactured from 1939 to 1949. Every detail of this
clock from its pewter-finished brushed metal case with top alarm shut-off to its
black dial and glass lens is faithfully reproduced to maintain
the Big Ben tradition of unique styling and quality. Only
the modern convenience (and quiet) of a three-hand analog quartz movement and a
pleasant "beep" alarm sound separate this Big Ben replica from
the 1939 Big Ben alarm clock of the past. The clock is simple
to set and use and requires one AA battery. This clock fits perfectly on
a nightstand, table, or shelf, or even on the floor next to your bed.

The Westclox 1939 Big Ben Alarm Clock remains true
to its stylish original design with a brushed, pewter-finished metal
case, an authentically styled base, and an alarm shut-oft on
top. Not only does the clock look
good, it has a nice, heavy feel to it. The dial is
black with contrasting white hour, minute, and second hands. The hour numbers are
light gray, and the alarm
time pointer is silver-tone. A glass lens protects the dial. The centers of the
hour and minute hands are luminescent for night viewing. This clock has a 3-7/8 inch dial,
and, at 3/8 inch tall, its bold hour numbers should be easy to read
for folks with reasonably normal vision. Designed for placement
on a nightstand, table, desktop, or on the floor next to your
bed, this alarm clock works in the home or office and
also where ac power is not available. |

The 47601 Big Ben clock is really easy to
use. You set the time and the alarm time by means of separate rotating knobs on the back of the clock.
Just turn them in the direction of the arrows. The movement in the 47601 is a conventional analog quartz movement. Thus, this clock is not "atomic" and does not adjust automatically for Daylight Saving Time, but it is extremely
accurate. To turn the
alarm on, you press and release the spring-loaded alarm button on the top
so that it is in the up position. When the alarm time is reached, you
hear a series of beeps. To turn off the beeping, press and release the
alarm button again so that it locks in the down position. The beeping
lasts for about 30 minutes if you don't turn it off first. This may be a
good thing for sound sleepers and for folks who'd prefer to stay in bed
but need to get up. As long as the alarm button is set to on (up
position), the alarm will sound again in 12 hours at the set time.
For powering, the 1939 Big
Ben alarm clock requires one AA (1.5V) battery, which is not included. We recommend an alkaline battery because alkaline cells are far less prone to leakage than the carbon-zinc type, and their leakage is far less corrosive. Expected battery life is about 1 year. To install the battery, you
unscrew two thumbscrews and remove the back of the case.
The 1939 Big Ben clock is intended for placement on a flat surface such as a nightstand, dresser, or shelf, or on the floor next to the bed or
sofa. It cannot be wall-mounted. With its easy setup and operation,
the 47601 Big Ben is an alarm clock that almost anyone can use and
appreciate. This clock is a perfect (and affordable) gift for almost
anyone who has a historic interest in the pre-WWII years or who just enjoys
the retro look. With absolutely authentic original styling and a modern
quartz movement, the 1931 Big Ben is a quality alarm clock that recalls
a time when we were beginning to emerge from the Great Depression but
war clouds were gathering over Europe and the Far East.
