Hygrometer, LCD Indoor Thermometer, and Alarm Clock with Calendar and Snooze

The TX5100 Timex Electronic LCD Indoor Thermometer with Hygrometer and Alarm Clock simultaneously displays the indoor temperature, the indoor relative humidity, and the time in its three-line see-through LCD panel. The digital quartz clock in this compact thermo-hygrometer has a single daily alarm with an available 8-minute snooze function. The TX5100 has a hide-away panel over its control pushbuttons and an integral folding table stand that lets you angle the unit for optimum viewing.

The TX5100 thermometer and hygrometer with alarm clock monitors and displays the indoor temperature in °F or °C and relative humidity (RH)  in percent. You can change the temperature unit at any time by momentarily pressing the C/F button under the hide-away panel. (Don't press and hold the C/F button because this controls another function entirely). Trend arrows (steady, rising, or falling) are displayed along with the temperature and humidity readings.

The TX5100 provides a number of comfort-related indications. A happy face with COM (for comfort) appears when the temperature is between 68°F and 78.8°F (20°C and 26°C) and the humidity is between 40% and 70% RH. The indication WET appears when the humidity is between 70% and 90%, and DRY appears when the humidity is between 30% and 40%. Along with DRY or WET is a face icon that's not happy. The indication Lo% or Hi% appears when the humidity is below 20% or above 90%, respectively. The indication Hi° or Lo° is displayed when the temperature is above or below the thermometer's -58°F to 158°F (-50°C to +70°C) measuring range, respectively. 

To set clock time and digital month-date, you use the MODE and SET AL buttons under the hide-away panel. The TX5100 can display the time in 12-hour format with PM, or in 24-hour format. To change the format at any time (and this isn't in the instructions!), press and hold the C/F button. To display month and date instead of hour and minutes, press the MODE button. Press MODE again to return to the time. The alarm in the TX5100 is a single daily alarm with an available 8-minute snooze function. You use the AL/CL (alarm/clock) and SET AL buttons to set the alarm time. To view the alarm time after it is set, press the AL/CL button. To return to clock time, press MODE.

During normal operation, you can activate the alarm by pressing SET AL once so that a bell icon appears. To also activate the snooze function, press SET AL a second time so that a Zz icon appears. Pressing SET/AL a third time turns deactivates the alarm and snooze, and the bell and Zz icons disappear. When the alarm sounds, it does so for 1 minute unless silenced earlier by pressing any button. If that button is the SNOOZE bar on the top of the clock and snooze is active, the alarm sounds again after 8 minutes.

Here are a few more things you should know about the TX5100:

• The hide-away panel that conceals the pushbuttons opens from the top and is hinged at the bottom. Of necessity, the hinge is quite small, so always open the panel carefully. You don't want to force it and break the hinge.

• The TX5100 comes with two preinstalled AG13 (1.5V) button cell batteries. To power up the clock, you must open the battery compartment cover and remove the clear plastic insulating strip by carefully pulling it out from under the batteries. The screw that secures the battery compartment cover is really small. You'll need a Phillips screwdriver no larger than size 00 to remove and replace the screw. When the display on the TX1500 fades and becomes hard to read, this indicates that battery replacement is needed.

• The display on this product is not backlit, so you can't view it in the dark.
