The OT-03 is unique in that
it differs from older oven thermometers that only show the temperature
at the time of measurement. This thermometer takes readings every 10
seconds and averages them from the time your oven reaches 30°F below
its set temperature. With the OT-03, it is now possible to know the
actual temperature at which you have been baking or roasting for a
specific period of time. Another benefit of the OT-03 is that it can be
viewed without opening the oven door, which can be extremely important
during baking because an open door can reduce the temperature in the
oven by more than 100°F and disturb the baking cycle. The
OT-03's three-line LCD panel shows the actual oven temperature average
on the top line, the alert temperature (that you set) on the middle
line, and the timer setting on the bottom line. Just to the left of the
oven temperature are the above-temp alert icon, the below-temp alert
icon, and the OPTIMAL icon. Just to the right of the alert temperature
in the middle line is the alert-on icon. The
20-hour timer can be set to count up simply by clearing the timer and
pressing the START/STOP button on the top of the unit. To count down,
set the hours, minutes, and seconds and press the START/STOP button.
When the timer reaches 00:00:00, an audible alert beeps and a
TIME’S-UP icon flashes. For
example, if you are baking a cake for 45 minutes at 350°F, you would do
the following:
-
Set your oven to 350°F.
-
Mount the probe to the
oven rack by means of its stainless steel clip, and route the wire
out of the oven and attach it to the main unit.
-
Power up the main unit
(set POWER switch to ON) and press the + or – button so that a 350°F
alert temperature is displayed in the middle line of the LCD panel.
-
Slide the ALERT switch
to ON. The ALERT ON icon appears.
-
Press the MIN button
until the timer displays 45 minutes and then start the timer.
"LO” will be displayed for the oven temperature (top line)
until the temperature rises above 122°F. If the temperature of the
probe rises above 572 °F, the unit displays “HI”. When the oven
temperature reaches 320°F (30° below the alert temperature) the
ALERT ON icon flashes and the unit beeps three times. The OT-03’s
top line now displays the actual average oven temperature, updated
every 10 seconds.
If during baking the average
oven temperature goes below 335°F or above 365°F for at least 30
seconds, the appropriate alert icon flashes and the unit beeps. If the
average oven temperature is below, you will need to turn your oven up,
and if it is above, you will need to turn your oven down. Pressing the
START/STOP button temporarily stops the beeping. As long as the average
oven temperature remains out of range, the unit will beep for 5 seconds
every minute. The flashing of the alert icon and the beeping stop when
the average oven temperature is back in range. After the 45 minutes is
up, the timer beeps and flashes to tell you that your cake is done.
Again, press the START/STOP button to stop the beeping and flashing.
The OT-03 offers three convenient mounting options. It can be hung on a
wall via the keyhole slot in the mounting bracket on back of the unit.
It can be mounted upright by removing the bracket (which doubles as a
table stand) and attaching it to the bottom of the unit. Also. it can
adhere to an iron or steel surface by means of its double magnets
(accessible by removing the bracket from the back).
The OT-03 is powered by one
AAA (1.5V) battery, which is included and preinstalled. Before using the
OT-03, you'll need to remove the mounting bracket, open the battery
compartment, and remove the insulating strip at the battery's positive
terminal. The battery included with the OT-03 is a carbon-zinc heavy
duty battery, but when replacement becomes necessary, we recommend an
alkaline battery. The OT-03 is covered by a
manufacturer's 1-year limited warranty.. Cautions:
-
Do not use the
stainless steel probe and wire in microwave ovens.
-
Do not use the probe
sensor and wire above 482°F for more than 4 hours because doing so
will deteriorate the wire.
-
Do not expose the
main unit to direct heat or water.
-
Always wear a
heat-resistant glove to handle the probe or wire during or after
cooking.
-
Do not submerge the
main unit in water. Clean it with a damp cloth instead.
-
Clean the probe after
each use, but do not submerge it in water.
