NOAA Public Alert Weather
Radio Functions:
The top portion
of the Honeywell TN924W is the NOAA Public Alert Weather
Radio display. A large one line display of characters
3/4" tall displays the content of weather and
emergency alert messages. The NOAA Public Alert system has been expanded
to include Emergency Alert System messages. Messages may now
cover a wide range of hazards such as biological and radiological
alerts, water contamination, earthquakes, industrial and wild fires,
and law enforcement issues as well as a full range of weather
warnings. The NOAA Public Alert radio functions also include a three
level (advisory, watch and warning) LED severity display for current
conditions, as well as audible alarms and weather
radio broadcasts. You may choose which conditions you would like to
be notified of, as well as up to nine specific geographic areas that
you would like notifications for.
Weather Station
Features:
The weather station
display is made up of seven display areas, called "windows".
Weather forecast:
The weather window displays moon phase (one of four icons), a weather
forecast icon representing the likely weather conditions for 12 to 24
hours into the future (one of 6 icons), and a bar graph display of weather
history. The bar graph may be set to display barometric pressure
history, or temperature or humidity history for remote channel 1.
Barometric
Pressure: The barometric pressure window displays current barometric
pressure in your choice of inHg (inches of mercury), hPa/mb (hectopascals/millibars), or
mmHg (millimeters of mercury). You may configure the display
to be compensated to sea level, or to a local altitude between
-657 to +16,404 feet (-200 to +5000 meters).
Time: The time
window displays the current time in 12 or 24 four format, plus a day of
the week abbreviation in your choice of English, German, French,
Italian, Spanish, or Dutch. You may configure the clock to display
seconds instead of day of the week, UTC (GMT) instead of local time, or
display the date in Month/Date/Year format.
The clock synchronizes
itself to the atomic clock in Ft. Collins Colorado by receiving WWVB radio
transmissions from up to 2000 miles away. A signal strength icon is
displayed, representing WWVB signal strength. Daylight Saving Time
changes are made automatically, and may be disabled, according to the city
code you select during configuration. City codes (and therefore time
zones) are configurable for cities all over the world, although WWVB radio
signals will not necessarily reach those cities.
The clock also has alarm functions,
including a weekday alarm, a
single day alarm, and a cold weather pre-alarm.
- The weekday alarm will sound at your
chosen time every day of the week, Monday through Friday.
- The single day alarm is set to sound
once. It can be used to wake at a different time any day of the
week without disturbing the weekday setting.
- The cold weather (ice warning) pre-alarm feature
allows you to set the alarm to go off early if the outdoor temperature
is below freezing. The pre-alarm feature can be set to trigger
the weekday or single alarm early in increments of 15 minutes, from
15 minutes to 90 minutes.
You can program a snooze interval of
up to 15 minutes, and all three alarms will have this snooze
interval.
Sunrise/Sunset: The Sunrise/Sunset Window displays the
sunrise and sunset times for the city you selected during setup.
Temperature and Humidity: The Temperature and Humidity Window shows the temperature (in °F
or °C) and relative humidity (in %) for indoors and the selected outdoor
(or other remote) channel. You also see a signal reception icon for
the selected thermo-hygro remote. You may also choose to display dew points in place of the temperatures. You can option the
display to automatically scan through all active channels. Here is
where you can program high and low temperature alerts for each
remote channel and view recorded minimum and maximum indoor and
outdoor temperatures and humidity.
Rainfall: The Rain Window displays (in inches or
millimeters) the rainfall for the past hour, past 24 hours,
yesterday, past week, or past month. It can also display a rain rate
estimate in inches or millimeters per hour. Here is where you can
also program a rainfall alert that is activated if daily rainfall
exceeds your programmed amount. A low battery icon appears in this
window if the batteries in the rainfall remote are low.
Wind: In the Wind Window, the wind direction is
shown by an animated compass display. The wind angle can be
displayed as compass points (e.g., WNW) or in bearings from true
north (e.g., 22.5°). At the
upper left of the window is displayed your choice of wind chill or
actual temperature at the remote anemometer's location. At the lower
left of the window, you can view the average wind speed for the last
10 minutes, the maximum gust speed for that period, and the maximum
average wind speed and maximum gust speed recorded during the day.
Here is where you can also program wind and gust alerts that are
activated if the average wind speed and the gust speed exceed your
programmed values.
Display and Backlight.
When the TN924W is powered from the
included ac adapter, you can turn the blue LED display backlight on
(continuously) or off, or you can set it to toggle on and off automatically based on ambient
light level. With automatic toggling selected, you can adjust
the light sensor's sensitivity to high or low, as appropriate for
your particular environment. With battery-only powering, the
backlight comes on for about 5 seconds when you press the LIGHT /
SNOOZE bar on the top of the station. Also with battery-only main
unit powering, you cannot use the infrared remote control. If you use the
ac adapter to power the station, you can still install batteries to
provide backup power in case of an ac outage so that programmed settings and
data in memory will not be lost.
Remote Control and Sensors.
The infrared remote control included with the TN924W weather station
is the TS607. The included outdoor
weather remotes are as follows:
 |
The infrared remote control included
with the TN924W weather station is the TS607.
|
 |
TS906 rain gauge (maximum
transmission range of 100 feet or 30 meters with no
interference). This remote mounts on a horizontal surface and
has an integral leveler.
|
 |
TS805 anemometer (maximum
transmission range of 100 feet or 30 meters with no
interference). This remote mounts on a wall or pole.
|
 |
TS34C five-channel temperature
and humidity sensor with display (maximum transmission range of
328 feet or 100 meters with no interference). This remote can
rest on a horizontal surface, or it can be wall-mounted via a
keyhole slot on the back.
|
Although only one TS34C thermo-hygro
sensor is included, the TN924W can actually work with up to five of these
remotes. Additional TS34C remotes must be purchased separately.
The infrared remote control uses two
AAA alkaline batteries, and all outdoor weather remotes use two AA alkaline
batteries. If below-freezing temperatures are expected, use lithium
batteries in the outdoor remotes instead of alkaline.
PC Software and Cable. Without
being connected to a pc, the TN924W can track 200 weather records. To install the included
software for additional capabilities, you simply put the CD-ROM in
your pc and follow the prompts on the screen. Unlike some
professional weather stations that have serial ports, the TN924W has a USB port and
includes a USB cable. See the Specifications below for
hardware requirements to run the software.
For years, Honeywell has been the name to trust for high-quality indoor environmental controls. Now you can have the same
quality in environmental monitoring. For superior environmental
instrumentation, why not go with Honeywell, the name you know you
can trust?
