Casio Wave Ceptor WVA-510A-1AV Tough Solar Atomic Watch
|
|
|
The Casio Wave Ceptor WVA-510A-1AV Tough Solar Atomic Watch
offers some features that are definitely out of the ordinary. First off,
this watch can synchronize to the radio signals not only from the U.S.
atomic clock in Colorado but also from the two atomic clocks in Japan.
Secondly, the
WVA-510A-1AV
incorporates Casio's Tough Solar powering
technology, so battery replacement should never be needed. This watch has an analog
main dial with three subdials and an LCD panel. The main dial
displays local time, and the LCD panel can display hour-offset time for
any of 29 time zones worldwide plus a lot of other information, depending
on the operating mode. The
WVA-510A-1AV
has a handsome, sporting look. It's ideal for casual wear,
but you may also want to wear it on other occasions that do not call for a
true dress watch.

The
front of the
Casio Wave Ceptor WVA-510A-1AV's case
is metal with the look of stainless steel. The bezel area that surrounds
the dial is polished, and the rest of the case front has a brushed finish. The
plastic sides of the case and the four control pushbuttons on them
are black. The watch face is dark gray. The slightly raised Arabic hour
numbers at all positions except
3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock are outlined in polished silver-tone and have
off-white luminescent centers. The small graphic hour markers at 9
and 12 are also luminescent. All six analog hands are white and
polished silver-tone. The
three main-dial hands have off-white luminescent centers like the
hour markers. All subdial markers are white.

On
the dark blue chapter ring (the outer edge of the dial that angles up) are
silver-white minute/second markers that are numeric on the fives and graphic
on the tens. At the 3 o'clock position on the face is the
LCD panel that shows year, month, and date plus a time-signal
reception icon and daylight saving time on/off status in Timekeeping
Mode. There is also an hour marker at 3 o'clock, but it's very small and
not outlined. The band is black resin that's slightly textured
in the center and smooth on the sides. The buckle on
the band and the back of the watch case are both stainless steel.
We should explain how the three
subdials work. The subdial at the top of the face of the
WVA-510A-1AV
is a stopwatch 1/20 second dial. When you use the
stopwatch, minutes, seconds, and hundredths of seconds are
displayed in the LCD panel. In addition, three analog hands
operate. These are the 1/20 second subdial hand, the second hand, and
the hand in the battery level subdial at the 9 o'clock position
(see next paragraph). In the Stopwatch Mode only, the battery
level hand indicates minutes instead of battery charge level.
The subdial at the 9 o'clock
position is the battery level dial (except in Stopwatch Mode, as
described above). The hand indicates high, medium, or low power.
If the hand is on low and the letter C is flashing in the LCD
panel, this is a Charge Soon alert. All functions except
internal timekeeping are disabled. If the hand is on low and no
C is flashing, all functions are disabled. The letter R flashing
in the LCD panel is a Recover indicator that lets you know when
a heavy load is being placed on the battery.
The subdial at the bottom of the
face is a 24-hour dial with markings at 2-hour increments.
The WVA-510A-1AV
has five daily
alarms plus an available hourly time signal. Alarms 1 through 4
are one-time alarms, and alarm 5 is a snooze alarm with a
5-minute snooze period between soundings. Alarm 4 is actually a
"target alarm," which counts down the time remaining
from the current time in your home time zone until the target
alarm time.
For dial illumination, the WVA-510A-1AV
uses two amber LEDs. You can select 1.5 or 2 seconds as the
illumination duration. Although this watch has analog hands, it
does not have a conventional crown. You can set the hands
manually by selecting the Hand Setting Mode and pressing buttons
as directed in the User's Guide.
Please look over the Features
and Functions list below, and prepare to be as impressed as
we are with this handsome and multifunctional solar
atomic watch with analog and digital displays.
Note: The band
on the
WVA-510A-1AV
is generously sized and has 11 holes for the
buckle. The watch will fit wrist sizes from about 5-1/2 to 8-1/2
inches.
