Atomic Projection Alarm Clock
|
|
|
The
Ferrari Collection from Oregon Scientific reflects the glamour,
excitement, and tradition of Formula One motor racing. The
instruments in the Ferrari Collection's Speedometer Line are named
after some of Ferrari's best-known road cars. These instruments
feature round, dashboard-like displays trimmed in chrome to evoke
the ambience of the classic sports and GT cars that have made
Ferrari an automotive legend. The
FSP301A-K
Maranello Atomic Projection Alarm Clock
has a silver case with a black front, a silver base, and a silver
projection arm. The case front has the checkered appearance of
carbon fiber, a major component in today's racecar construction.
The projection arm and base are silver. The display is surrounded
by a red and black "dial" that mimics a tachometer. On
the top and front of the case are the 6 chrome buttons that
control most of this clock's functions. |

Like
all Ferrari Collection products, the Maranello bears the
Ferrari prancing horse logo. Perfect for home or office,
this Oregon Scientific time and weather instrument is
great-looking and rich in features. Its backlit LCD panel
displays the indoor temperature plus remote/outdoor
temperature from 1 to 3 locations up to 100 feet (30 meters)
away. It also provides highly accurate weather forecasts and
shows temperature trends. Rounding out the Maranello's
feature complement is an atomic projection clock with
calendar and snooze alarm. |
|
|
The Maranello is
medium in size at about 6.9 inches wide by 4.1 inches tall. Its
round LCD panel is about 2.4 inches in diameter and has a 3-line
display. Besides indicating the time, date, temperature, and
weather forecast, the Maranello atomic projection clock:
- Stores maximum
and minimum temperatures--both indoor and for all remotes in
use--until reset. These can be displayed at the push of a
button.
- Provides
temperature trend indications (rising, steady, or falling) .
- Provides
accurate weather forecasts (with four different graphical
icons) based on air pressure changes.
- Projects both
the time and the Ferrari prancing horse logo.
- Has a single
daily alarm with an 8-minute snooze function.
The top half of the
Maranello's LCD panel displays the weather information. This
includes the temperature, a temperature trend arrow, and a
forecast icon. The temperature display is user-selectable for
°F or °C. Pressing the Channel button on the top of the clock
cycles the temperature display between indoor temperature and the
outdoor temperatures from all associated remotes in use (these are
designated Channel 1, 2, and 3). The channel number for the
selected remote is displayed, and a radio wave icon above the
channel number indicates RF reception from the remote. If desired,
you can activate an auto-scan mode that automatically changes the
channel every 3 seconds.
One THR238NF
wireless remote temperature sensor is included with the Maranello,
which can actually monitor up to three of these sensors. The
THR238NF remote is black in color, and it has its own LCD display
that shows the temperature locally. Additional sensors can be
obtained separately.
The lower half of
the Maranello's LCD panel displays the time and date information
on two lines. During
normal operation, the top line shows the current time as hour and
minutes. You can select either 12-hour or 24-hour time for this
display during clock setup. And, during normal operation, you can
select either seconds or weekday to be displayed along with hour
and minutes. You do this simply by pressing the Clock button on
the front panel. The weekday abbreviation is selectable for
any of five languages: English, French, German, Italian, or
Spanish.
The bottom line of
the time and date display shows the date in your choice of
month-day or day-month format. As an alternative, you can display
alarm information. If the alarm is set, an alarm icon appears to
the left of the date. Additional information (such as time zone)
temporarily appears in the clock's displays during clock setup,
and this is explained in the user manual.
A special feature
of the Maranello projection clock is its choice of alarm sounds
for the single daily alarm. You can select either a conventional
2-minute crescendo alarm (a series of increasingly loud beeps) or
a racing mode alarm. This is the sound of an actual Ferrari F1
racecar accelerating through the gears and then backing off, and
it repeats several times. Like the crescendo alarm, it ceases
after about 2 minutes if you don't press the Alarm or Snooze/Light
button to stop it.
The image projected
by the Maranello is the current time plus the Ferrari prancing
horse logo. If you want continuous projection, you must power the
Maranello from the included ac adapter. Otherwise, the clock can
be powered from batteries, in which case you press the
Snooze/Light button to turn on both the projected display and the
LCD display's bright blue HiGlo™ electro-luminescent backlight
for 5 seconds.
The Maranello's
projection arm tilts a full 180° so that the image can be
projected not only upward but also to the front or back as
desired. Two knobs and a button on the back of the projection arm
allow for additional image control. One knob lets you rotate the
image180° so that it can be right side up, upside down, or
anywhere in between. If you want to flip the image 180° from its
current orientation, the button lets you do this instantly without
having to use the rotation knob. The second knob focuses the image
for maximum sharpness.
The Maranello
features a bright, pushbutton-activated HiGloTM
electro-luminescent backlight with auto-off for its LCD panel. The
backlight comes on when you push the Snooze/Light button on the
top of the main unit and also when the alarm sounds.
The FSP301A-K main
unit is designed to rest on a shelf, desk, table, or other flat
surface. It cannot be wall-mounted. The THR238NF remote
temperature sensor has its own wall-mounting bracket, or you can
install the included wire stand and place the remote on a flat
surface.
The main unit uses
three AA (1.5V) alkaline batteries, and the remote sensor uses two
AA alkaline batteries. All batteries are included. Be sure to
install the batteries in the remote before installing them in the
main unit. This will ensure that the remote registers properly
with the main unit. If you want to use the remote in sub-freezing
conditions, we recommend that you replace its AA alkaline
batteries with lithium batteries. Lithium cells retain their power
down to about -40°F (-40°C).
While the carbon
fiber black front panel of this version of the Maranello captures
the spirit of Ferrari's current F1 racecar technology, the
station's round instrument-like display has the classic look that
has graced Ferrari road car dashboards for decades. |

Features and
Benefits
- It's wireless!
Easy setup with no cables to string--remote sensors send
temperature and humidity data back to the main unit (base
station) via 433MHz radio waves.
- Know the
temperature both indoors and at up to three remote
locations--outdoors or in your greenhouse, baby's room,
warehouse, wine cellar or other location--from the comfort of
your home or office.
- At a glance,
check the temperature trend and the weather forecast.
- Four weather
forecast icons indicate Sunny (clear at night), Partly Cloudy,
Cloudy, or Rainy (snowy in sub-freezing temperatures).
- Weather forecast
is for 12 to 24 hours in the future. The forecast covers an
18- to 30-mile (30- to 50-km) radius and is 70 to 75 percent
