Acu-Rite
01867 Bear Creek Analog Thermometer by Philip R. Goodwin, 12.5-inch
diameter
|
|
| Within the Acu-Rite Designer
Edition series of thermometer are several that feature outdoor scenes by
famous American artists. The scene on this thermometer, the 01867
Bear Creek Analog
Thermometer, was painted in 1910 by eastern artist Philip R.
Goodwin. Born in 1882 in Norwich, Connecticut, Goodwin specialized in
outdoor scenes, especially hunting, fishing, and the cowboy life. One of
the artists who influenced Goodwin's cowboy paintings was the renowned
Charles Russell. Goodwin passed away in Mamaroneck, New York, in 1935. The
artwork on this thermometer is licensed by Jon Q. Wright.

The Acu-Rite
01867 Bear Creek Analog Thermometer has a black molded case.
The scene on the dial shows two outdoorsmen on a canoe trip.
They have just left the water and are climbing onshore. The
first fellow is toting their gear, and the second is carrying
the canoe. Perhaps they are beginning a portage to skirt the
whitewater that's visible in the foreground. More likely,
considering the orange color of the background sky, dusk is
approaching and the guys are preparing to set up camp for the
night. The old-fashioned numbers on the mottled tan outer
portion of the dial are shaded from brown to black and are about
3/4 inch tall. They range from -60°F to
+120°F at 20° intervals, and markers
at 2° intervals range from -70°F to +130°F. The
pointer is transparent except at its tip so that it does not
block the image. |

At 12.5 inches in diameter,
the Acu-Rite 01867 is a fine choice for medium to large rooms and
spaces. It will look absolutely terrific on patios and decks and in summer homes, cabins,
lodges, gazebos, and
recreation rooms, especially in rooms or areas with rustic outdoor decor.
And if your commercial establishment has this type of decor, the Bear
Creek thermometer will fit right in. We're not sure where this
particular Bear Creek is because many parts of North America are blessed with
verdant forested hills separated by valleys with fast-flowing streams.
However, given the fact that the artist lived in New York, this could be
the Bear Creek in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains, not far from the New
York state line. Quintessentially
American, Goodwin's painting depicts an event sometime between late spring and
early fall, when the days are long and the temperatures comfortable. The
Bear Creek thermometer is designed
to hang on a wall or other vertical surface via two small screws (not
included). While this thermometer is crafted from weather resistant
materials, it is not sealed against moisture, and this must
be taken into account when determining its location. It must be
sheltered from precipitation. For accurate temperature
readings, be sure to mount the thermometer where it will not
be exposed to direct sunlight or other direct heat sources. On
the back of the thermometer's carton is a center guide template for the screw holes. Please
note the following: While the center guide template is oriented
horizontally on the carton, you need to orient it vertically because
this is how the hangers are oriented on the back of the thermometer.
The Acu-Rite 01867 Bear
Creek Analog Thermometer is proudly made in the USA.
