Acu-Rite
01754 Butterflies Analog Thermometer by James Hautman,
12.5-inch
diameter
|
|
| The Acu-Rite
Exclusive Wildlife Collection of thermometers features the work of
nationally renowned wildlife artists. Within this collection is the
Hautman Brothers® series of thermometers. The Hautmans are Minnesota artists who have received numerous honors and
awards and whose work has been featured on over 40 state and federal
stamps. The artwork on this thermometer, the 01754 Butterflies Analog
Thermometer,
is by James Hautman. In 1989, Jim (who normally goes by his nickname) became the youngest artist
ever to
win the Federal Duck Stamp contest, which many have long regarded as the
most prestigious wildlife art competition in America.

The Acu-Rite
01754 Butterflies Analog Thermometer has a black molded case.
The scene on the dial is a wildflower meadow in the midwest.
Checking out the flowers is a female monarch butterfly.
Partially visible are a buckeye butterfly at the right edge and
a tiger swallowtail at the top edge. Other six-legged critters
include a ladybug, a grasshopper, and a carpenter bee. The
grasshopper is mature, so the time of year is midsummer,
probably late July or early August. The yellow numbers on the dial are bold and, at
almost an inch tall, are easy to read. They range from -60°F to
+120°F at 20° intervals, and markers
at 2° intervals range from -70°F to +130°F. The
pointer is transparent except at its tip so that it does not
block the image. |

At 12.5 inches in diameter,
the Acu-Rite 01754 is a fine choice for medium to large rooms and
spaces. It will look absolutely terrific on patios and decks and in summer homes, cabins,
lodges, gazebos, and
recreation rooms, especially in rooms or areas with other
flora-and-fauna decor. In deepest winter, the scene on the Butterflies
thermometer will remind you that it won't be long until spring and
summer return. If I had a flower or lawn and garden-related business,
I'd probably hang this thermometer on a wall there, too. The lush
green vegetation and colorful flowers in the scene seem perfect for such an
application. The
Butterflies thermometer is designed
to hang on a wall or other vertical surface via two small screws (not
included). While this thermometer is crafted from weather resistant
materials, it is not sealed against moisture, and this must
be taken into account when determining its location. It must be
sheltered from precipitation. For accurate temperature
readings, be sure to mount the thermometer where it will not
be exposed to direct sunlight or other direct heat sources. On
the back of the thermometer's carton is information about Jim
Hautman and other artists whose work graces the Acu-Rite Wildlife
Collection. Below that is a center guide template for the screw holes. Please
note the following: While the center guide template is oriented
horizontally on the carton, you need to orient it vertically because
this is how the hangers are oriented on the back of the thermometer.
The Acu-Rite 01754
Butterflies Analog Thermometer is proudly made in the USA.
