The Acu-Rite 00938 White Metal Clock with Thermometer and Hygrometer is a traditionally styled analog wall clock whose metal case has a gloss white finish. This clock features both an analog thermometer and an analog hygrometer on the lower half of its face. This clock will look great either indoors or in a sheltered and shaded location outdoors. (Mounting this clock where the sun shines on it even part-time will cause an inaccurate temperature reading and possibly an incorrect hygrometer reading. Also, the clock should be protected from direct precipitation.)

The manufacturer calls the 00938 a 16-inch clock, but we actually measured it at 15 inches (381 mm) in overall diameter, with a face diameter of about 11 inches (279 mm). The big, bold hour numerals are just over1 inch (25.4 mm) tall for easy viewing. The analog thermometer reads from -40°F to +140°F, and the analog hygrometer indicates relative humidity from 0 to 100 percent. The round dials of both the thermometer and hygrometer are about 2-1/4 inches (57 mm) in diameter. 

The 00938 clock uses a highly accurate quartz movement. You simply remove the snap-on cover over the movement, insert one AA (1.5V) battery, turn a knob to set the time, replace the cover, and that's all there is to clock setup. The battery is not included and must be obtained separately. We recommend using an alkaline battery. Although expected battery life is not specified, we believe from our experience with this type of clock that the battery should last a year or more.

Note on Using the 00938 Outdoors: When the temperature is expected to fall below freezing, you may want to bring the 00938 indoors. This is because in low temperatures, an alkaline battery may not provide enough current to power the clock motor, in which case the clock will lose its accuracy. If you wish, you may want to try replacing the alkaline battery with a lithium battery and see how the clock operates in the cold. Lithium batteries generally work down to about -40°F/C.
