The Chaney 00913 UV
Sensor is really easy to program and use. After you press the
Power button to turn the sensor on, three simple steps are all
it takes. First, you enter the SPF level of the suntan lotion
you're using. Second, you enter your skin type from the four
types listed in the instructions and also on the back of the
sensor. Third, you place the sensor in a sunny area with the
small round sensor window above the LCD panel facing the sun.
The 00913 will detect the intensity of the UV rays and
calculate, display, and count down your recommended exposure
time. The
sensor displays - - : - - at the top of the LCD panel
until the UV measurement is complete, at which time a numeric
reading appears in the UV area. You then see the recommended
exposure time displayed at the top of the
LCD panel. This time may flash for a short period. When the time is displayed steadily, the exposure time
countdown starts. The sensor displays the time either as hours
and minutes or as minutes and seconds, as appropriate. If the
colon (:) between the numbers is flashing and the numbers
to the right of the colon are not counting down rapidly, the
display is hours and minutes. If the colon is displayed steadily
and the digits to the right of the colon are counting down
quickly, the display is minutes and seconds. If you see the time
flashing or changing later, the sensor is readjusting the
exposure time based on a change in the UV level. You'll hear an audible beep when 1 minute of
exposure time remains. Please
be aware that the displayed UV level will change under natural
environmental conditions, so don't try to change this reading.
Variations in the UV level are normal over time and as cloud
conditions change. The
00913 UV Sensor is powered by one CR2032 (3V) lithium battery,
which is included and preinstalled. When you are not using the
sensor, be sure to turn the power off to extend battery life.
Also included with the sensor is a detachable lanyard so that
you can wear the sensor around your neck if you wish.
