Chaney 00912 Heat Index Monitor

The Chaney 00912 Heat Index Monitor is a pocket-size precision instrument that monitors the heat index so that you can easily assess comfort levels. Exposure to excessive heat indexes can cause cramps, heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and sunstroke. Avoiding exposure to dangerously high heat indexes is especially important for children, the elderly, and people with health concerns. The Heat Index Monitor measures both temperature and humidity and calculates the heat index value based on the two measurements. When the temperature is below 80°F, only the current temperature is displayed in the monitor's LCD panel. When the temperature reaches 80°F, a heat index value is displayed to the right of the temperature and a colored bar graph indicates the comfort level (Normal, Caution, or Extreme Caution).

The Chaney 00912 Heat Index Monitor measures and displays the heat index to help you determine comfort levels. Exposure to excessive heat indexes can cause cramps, heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and sunstroke. The 00912 always displays the current temperature. When the temperature reaches 80°F, the heat index is also displayed, and a bar graph indicates a comfort level of Normal, Caution, or Extreme Caution. For children, the elderly, and people with health concerns, the 00912 can be a real asset in hot weather. This monitor is compact, portable, easy to operate, and can be used indoors and out.

The Chaney 00912 Heat Index Monitor is really easy to use. When you first open the package, you'll need to remove the protective film over the monitor's LCD panel. You'll also need to insert one AAA battery (not included) into the battery compartment on the back panel. You then press the ON/OFF button to turn the power on, and that's all there is to it. The monitor briefly displays ---:--- and then the temperature appears. If the temperature is 80°F or higher, you'll see not only the temperature but also the heat index and, in a bar graph, a comfort level of Normal, Caution, or Extreme Caution. If the bar reaches cautionary levels (the yellow or red areas), take the necessary precautions to avoid the heat.

On the back of the insert in the 00912's package and also in the included instruction manual is a heat index chart for reference purposes. This chart is actually a temperature (°F) versus relative humidity (%) graph supplied by the National Weather Service Forecast Office.

On the back of the 00912 UV Heat Index Monitor is a spring clip so that you can attach the monitor to your belt, waistband, purse, etc. The spring clip doubles as a table stand. The 00912 is powered by one AAA (1.5V) battery, which is not included (an alkaline cell is recommended). When you are not using the monitor, be sure to turn the power off to extend battery life.
