At only 2-3/4 inches wide by 5 inches tall by 1-1/4 inches deep, the 00852 fits comfortably almost anywhere, including crowded desks and small nightstands. The clock's LCD panel is about 1 inch wide by 2 inches high. The outdoor temperature display in the top section is just under 1/2 inch tall. The indoor temperature in the middle section is about 3/8 inch tall, and hour and minutes in the bottom section are about 1/4 inch tall. The 00852 monitors and displays the indoor temperature plus the outdoor temperature in up to three locations by means of the included remote sensor and one or two additional remote sensors, which are are optional and sold separately. The remote sensors can transmit up to 100 feet (30 meters) in an open area with no interference. On both the main unit and the remote sensors, temperatures can be displayed in either °F or °C, as selected during setup. The main unit displays a temperature trend arrow (rising, steady, or falling) for each outdoor/remote channel temperature.

The included wireless remote temperature sensor is silver in color. The remote snaps into a bracket that can be mounted on a wall or, with its table stand folded out, placed on a horizontal surface. As mentioned above, the 00852 can operate with up to three remotes. The optional remote for the 00852 is the Acu-Rite 00739. This remote comes with a detachable probe on a 10-foot (3-meter) cord. The probe is ideal for use in pools, spas, hot tubs, aquariums, soil, and the like. Please be aware that the remote that comes with the 00852 does not have a probe.

Integral random security code technology is another feature of this wireless thermometer. The main unit learns the random code of the remote sensor and logs it in as Channel 1. Channels 2 and 3 register in the same way if additional sensors are purchased and used. If more than one remote is in use, you can activate the station's auto-scroll feature, in which case each channel's temperature with trend is displayed alternately for 5 seconds.

Unlike some small wireless thermometers that have temperature alerts for Channel 1 only, the 00852 has programmable high and low temperature alerts (audible alarms) for each of its active outdoor/remote channels.

The precision digital quartz clock in the 00852 is especially versatile. You can display local time or, as an alternative, a second-zone time with +/-12-hour offset. You can also select 12-hour or 24-hour format. Two independent alarms can also be set. When either alarm goes off, it sounds for 1 minute unless you press the SNOOZE/LIGHT button, in which case the alarm stops sounding and then sounds again in 10 minutes. Pressing the SNOOZE/LIGHT button at any time lights the soft green LCD panel backlight for 5 seconds. In the calendar display, you can select English, German, French, Italian, or Spanish for the two-letter weekday abbreviation. Month and date are displayed digitally in that order. Please note that the clock in the 00852 is a regular precision digital quartz clock, not an atomic (radio-controlled) clock.

The 00852 requires two AA (1.5V) alkaline batteries, and the included remote requires two AAA (1.5V) alkaline batteries. Now that AAA lithium batteries are available, you may want to try them in the remote instead of alkaline if the remote will be used in continuous sub-freezing temperatures. The 00852 provides low-battery indications both for itself and for all remotes in use.
