This
wireless thermometer monitors and displays the indoor
temperature plus the temperature in up to 3 additional
locations by means of the included remote sensor and 1 or 2
additional remote sensors, which are optional and sold
separately. Maximum range of the remote sensors is 100
feet in clear air. Temperatures can be displayed in either °F or °C
(pushbutton-selectable). A temperature
trend indicator is displayed for each outdoor/remote-channel
temperature. The unit also displays
a barometric pressure trend indicator and a
weather-forecasting icon that is based on barometric pressure
changes and is 70 to 80 percent accurate for the next 12 hours. The
thermometer records minimum and maximum indoor and
outdoor/remote temperatures, and these can be displayed at the
push of a button. In addition, both high and low temperature
alerts can be programmed for both the indoor temperature and any
or all of the remote-channel temperatures. When a temperature
reaches the preset alerting point, that temperature display
flashes and an audible alarm sounds. You can push any button to
silence the alarm, but the temperature will continue to flash
until it cools or warms (as appropriate) from the alerting
point. Four
different weather-forecasting icons can be displayed on this
thermometer: Sunny, Partly Sunny, Cloudy, and Rainy. A flashing
Rainy icon serves as a storm alert feature to indicate potential
severe weather conditions. If the sun icon is displayed, it changes to
a moon-and-stars icon at night. If the forecasting icons do not
seem to be updating accurately according to the weather, you can
manually calibrate the unit so that they update properly (may be
necessary if you live at high altitude). This
wireless thermometer also features a precision quartz clock with
month, date, and weekday calendar display and a daily alarm with
10-minute snooze function. The button that activates the snooze
function also lights the LCD display's backlight. Please note that
the clock in this unit is a precision digital quartz clock--not a radio-controlled, or
"atomic," clock. The time can be displayed in 12-hour
or 24-hour mode, and the clock offers a convenient hour-offset
function for easy resetting when Daylight Saving Time begins and
ends or if you take the unit to another time zone.
The Acu-Rite 00736
thermometer uses one model of
wireless remote temperature sensor: the Acu-Rite 00739 universal
sensor. One
00739 is included with the station, and the station accepts up
to three. Additional sensors are available separately. The 00739 has a waterproof case and can be wall-mounted via a
detachable bracket or placed on a flat surface. This universal sensor
features both an integral LCD temperature display
for local viewing (selectable for °F or °C) and a detachable,
submersible probe on a 10-foot wire. Use the sensor without the
probe to monitor indoor or outdoor air temperature wherever the
sensor is mounted, or
attach the probe and use the sensor to monitor the temperature
in a pool, spa, aquarium, or pond, or in soil. If you live
in a very cold climate, you can mount the 00739 remote indoors,
and run the probe wire out through a window to prevent battery
freezing problems, and to allow reading the outdoor temperature
from the front of the remote, indoors. The probe may also
be run into freezers, refrigerators, steel sheds, or out through
a steel sided wall where steel construction would otherwise
interfere with the signal.
Integral
random security code technology is another feature of this
wireless thermometer.
The main unit learns the random code of the remote sensor and
logs it in as Channel 1. Channels 2 and 3 register in the same
way if additional sensors are purchased and used. The remote
sensors can transmit up to 100 feet (30 meters) without outside
interference, i.e., in an open area. The station has a
user-selectable auto-scroll feature by which each active remote
sensor's temperature reading is displayed for 5 seconds. Operating
temperature range of the main unit is 32° to 122°F
(0° to 50°C). Operating temperature range of the remote
sensors is -58° to +158°F (-50° to +70°C). When
outdoor temperatures reach -12°F (-24°C), the manufacturer
recommends that you bring the remote sensors indoors and attach their probes
to monitor outdoor temperatures by placing the probes out a
window. Really cold weather can cause a remote sensor's LCD
display and batteries to freeze and malfunction (this is true of
any brand of remote sensor that has a display and operates on
Alkaline batteries). All
required batteries are included: 2 AA (1.5V) cells for the main unit and 2
AAA (1.5V) cells for the included remote sensor. Both the main unit and
remote sensor display a low-battery indication when the
batteries become weak. The batteries supplied with the unit are
"super heavy duty," but we strongly recommend alkaline
cells at replacement time. If
you're looking for a medium-small wireless
thermometer with multiple remote capability, weather-forecasting
information, an integral alarm
clock with calendar and snooze, and some other nice
features (including a bright backlight plus memories and alerts), the
Acu-Rite 00736 is a great choice. Neither
too large nor too small, but big in functionality, the 00736
Wireless Thermometer is perfect for any room in the house--or your office. It comes with a 1-year factory
warranty.
