This
wireless digital weather station monitors and displays the temperature both
indoors and in up to 2 remote/outdoor locations by means of the included remote sensor and 1
additional remote sensor, which is optional and sold
separately. Also displayed is the indoor relative humidity (if
selected instead of the current time). Temperatures can be displayed in either °F or °C,
as selected via pushbutton. Four different modes of temperature
alert can be programmed for each remote channel in use. These
are:
-
In Between:
Alert activates when the temperature enters the preset
range.
-
Out of Range:
Alert activates when the temperature goes outside of the
preset range.
-
Lower Than:
Alert activates when the temperature goes outside of the
preset range.
-
Higher Than:
Alert activates when the temperature goes outside of the
preset range.
The weather center's
integral memory records maximum and minimum values for indoor
temperature, indoor relative humidity, and outdoor/remote
temperature for each remote sensor in use. These values are
available at the push of a button, and you can easily clear and
reset the memory if desired. Four
different weather-forecasting icons can be displayed on this
weather center: Sunny, Partly Sunny, Cloudy, and Rainy. Each provides an
accurate forecast for the next 12 to 24 hours based on
barometric pressure. If the forecasting icons do not
seem to be indicating and updating accurately according to the
weather, you can
manually calibrate the station so that the icons read and update properly.
Such inaccuracies can occur, for example, if you live at an
altitude where average barometric pressure is significantly
lower than at sea level. Displayed along with the forecast icon
is a barometric pressure trend arrow that indicates increasing,
steady, or falling. The
Acu-Rite 00684L uses only one model of
wireless remote temperature sensor: the Acu-Rite 00689. One
00689 is included with the station, and the station accepts up
to two. The additional sensor is sold separately. The 00689
features a
water-resistant case and is designed for wall mounting. This can
be done either via the included two-sided tape or via two
included screws that are used to secure the case's outer back
cover to a wall (the outer cover acts as a mounting bracket).
Mount the sensor away from direct sunlight and rainfall. The
00689 sensor has an attached, submersible probe on a 3-foot wire
that tucks into a compartment at the bottom of the sensor case.
For monitoring of remote indoor temperatures (such as in a wine
cellar or greenhouse) or of outdoor temperatures above +12°F (
-10°C), you need not pull the probe from the sensor case. For
colder temperatures, however, you should bring the sensor
indoors so the battery doesn't freeze, extend the wire, and
place the probe out of a window. You'll also need to extend the
wire and probe if you want to monitor the temperature in a
freezer, in a liquid (e.g., in a pool, spa, aquarium, or pond), or in soil. The
00689 remote sensor can transmit up to 100 feet (30 meters) without outside
interference, i.e., in an open area. The 00684L center has a
user-selectable auto-scroll feature by which each active remote
sensor's temperature reading is displayed for 5 seconds. This
weather station also features a precision digital quartz clock
that indicates hour, minutes, and seconds in either 12- or
24-hour mode (user-selectable). Please note that this is a regular
digital quartz clock--not a radio-controlled, or
"atomic," clock. Operating
temperature range of the station main unit is 32° to 122°F
(0° to 50°C). Operating temperature range of the remote
sensors is -58° to +158°F (-50° to +70°C). If
you're looking for a medium-small wireless digital weather
station with big, bold LCD displays (main numbers about 7/8-inch
tall)--plus special features such as min/max memory for
temperature and humidity and a choice of 4 temperature alert
modes--the Acu-Rite 00684L surely deserves your serious
consideration.
All required
batteries are included and preinstalled in both the main unit
and the remote sensor. All you need to do is access them
according to the instructions and remove the insulator strips. The main unit uses
two AA (1.5V) batteries, and
the remote sensor uses one 9-volt battery. We strongly recommend
alkaline cells when replacement time comes around. The main unit
displays a low-battery indication when its batteries or the
battery in a remote sensor becomes weak. This
wireless digital weather forecasting center is perfect for the serious weather watcher or for
the novice--and for any room in the house, or your office. It comes with a 1-year factory
warranty.
